TYPHOON ROOM - QUEEN

One of the most popular rooms at Martin Hill Inn, Typhoon sets the stage for a memorable weekend getaway in Portsmouth, NH and provides a seacoast-lodging alternative to nearby Durham, NH and Newburyport, MA hotels.


Decorated with Williamsburg wallpaper, this room also boasts its original wide-pine floor from approximately 1820. The bed is a queen-size, cherry, four-poster, and the American-made armoire dates to the early 1800s. The room also has an antique writing table and two wingback chairs. The works of art give the room an oriental flavor. The stairs leading to the second floor rooms, especially in the Guest House, are fairly steep. For guests who have trouble with stairs, we suggest booking a room on the first floor.


The merchant vessel Typhoon was launched in 1851. She weighed 1612 tons and was 225 feet long. Typhoon’s maiden voyage was a recording-making trip that has yet to be broken. She made the voyage from Portsmouth to Liverpool in just 13 1/2 days. A color print of Typhoon graces one wall of the room.


In Typhoon, the private en-suite bathroom has a large stall shower. This room is located on the second floor of the Main House toward the back of the house.

CATHEDRAL ROOM - KING + TWIN

At Martin Hill Inn, experience a comfortable and unique alternative to the hotel chains in town or near the outlets in Kittery, ME. This large, formal, Federal-style bedroom in the Main House of our inn, in Portsmouth has a King-size bed with an additional twin-size bed. The room is named for the clipper ship, Cathedral. Launched in 1855 and weighing 1650 tons, Cathedral was a magnificent vessel. She carried passengers in her luxurious staterooms and transported over $260,000 worth of cargo. In 1857, she was tragically shipwrecked in a violent storm off the coast of Cape Horn. Cathedral’s builder, Samuel Badger, continues to lives on in name on Badger’s Island, which sits in the middle of the Piscataqua River separating Portsmouth, NH from Kittery, ME.

Step back in time a bit on the original wide-pine-board floor from circa 1820. It is located on the second floor of the Main House. RANGER SUITE - KING + FULL

This first-floor room at Martin Hill Inn will make you feel pampered the moment you walk through the door. This spacious accommodation has plenty of room for a King-size Bed with an additional full-size pull out sofa.

Ranger was one of the most well known of the ships built in Portsmouth Harbor. She was a 20-gun frigate commanded by John Paul Jones, known as the founder of the U.S. Navy. In Ranger, Jones scoured the English and Irish coasts during the Revolutionary War. In 1778 Ranger became the first US ship recognized by a foreign power.

This room retains its original pine wood floors, from 1820. During your stay, catch up on a favorite show on the flat-screen TV, or relax on the Sheraton-style loveseat and enjoy a good book. The private en-suite bath features a full shower.

Named after the frigate Raleigh ship, it was Portsmouth's first contribution to the Continental Navy and went to sea in 1777. Named after the English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh. This ship is featured on The seal of New Hampshire and was adopted in 1784 after the Revolutionary War.
